Scholarships For 2025

Each year, there are six scholarships available to college students with Huguenot heritage.  Each of the scholarships has some specific requirements. The decision-making process for awarding scholarships is shared by both HFA and Historic Huguenot Street. HFA has created a new scholarship to honor Robert W. Hasbrouck, Jr. for his long dedication to HFA.

Several enrolled citizens from five federally recognized Lenape Delaware communities affiliated with the site spent several days prior to the New Netherland Marketplace constructing an Esopus cooking shelter, which was then used throughout the weekend-long New Netherland Marketplace.

The application period for Huguenot scholarships is open. To apply, go to the Historic Huguenot Street website, open the Education dropdown menu and choose Internships & Scholarships, scroll to the bottom of the page to view the available scholarships and the application instructions and forms. Eligible college students are encouraged to apply. Please note that the applications must be received at HHS by August 31, 2025.

Jean House west wall repointed, awaiting the cellar cover.

Jean Hasbrouck House

In recent years, HFA has been in a financial position to plan restoration projects at the Jean House. Several exterior projects are underway. One, started last fall, will be completed this summer. The cellar cover on the back (west) wall will be reconstructed. While it is not an original component of the house, it is important as it provides access to the cellar for mechanical work. The west wall has been repointed in the original style. New gutters will be installed. Made of Alaskan Cedar, they will be larger and able to handle the volume of rainwater and carry the water away from the house. In the fall, masons will be repointing the east (front) and south wall to match the other walls, bringing the entire exterior to have a compatible, historically accurate masonry. ...

Ziggy Hasbrouck

This article was written by Darren Gibson for Society for Baseball Research. It is included in this HFA Journal edition with his permission.

Bob “Ziggy” Hasbrook was the first athlete ever to be a member of both a World Series winner and a national basketball champion. The infielder’s big-league baseball career consisted of just 11 games, but two of those came with the 1917 Chicago White Sox, who included him on their postseason roster. ...
