HFA Annual Reunion & Meeting 2024

The 2024 HFA Annual Reunion and Meeting was held on October 12 on Huguenot Street in New Paltz. At the business meeting, twenty-six attendees heard the President’s and Treasurer’s Reports, voted for the Board of Directors for the next year, and heard from Liselle LaFrance about the Huguenot Street activities.

Following a brief service at the Stone Church, the Abe and Jean Houses were toured. After the tours and the annual group photo in front of Abe, we enjoyed a delicious catered lunch provided by Main Course Caterers at the Fireside Room in the church education building. Our speaker was Atty. Paul O’Neill, who spoke about the impact of the New York State Constitutional Convention and its participants in the establishment of our national government.

Save the date: The 2025 Annual Reunion will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, on Huguenot Street.

Locust Lawn

Huguenot Street houses are a special part of our heritage. When visiting the street, it is a very unique and special experience to be in the homes of our ancestors. Interestingly, because the stone houses were very drafty, cold in the winter and hot in the summer, after a few generations, families moved to houses that were built in the British style. Josiah and Sarah Decker Hasbrouck did just that, building their mansion, Locust Lawn in 1814.

The house was willed to Historic Huguenot Street in the 1950’s. However, HHS deemed the five-mile distance between Locust Lawn and Huguenot Street to be an impediment to its being an effective part of the museum site, and it was sold to Locust Grove Estate (Poughkeepsie) which maintains Locust Lawn for special events.

The Hasbrouck Family Association has held an interest in the Locust Lawn, providing financial and organizational assistance for several important projects. HFA has enabled needed roof repairs that have kept the house dry. Our most recent project, in partnership with Locust Grove Estate, was painting the entire exterior of Locust Lawn. This work was completed recently – and the house looks magnificent! ...
